Writing for Writing Sake: Thinking of the Next Year

In the coming year these are the things I want to do with this blog:
  • Complete the Asmor's Instant Dungeon series through 30th level.
  • Create some more pre-generated characters from levels 1 to 30. (This will probably wait until Wotc finishes it's Character Builder application).
  • Create actual test dungeons to run the Pre-gen's through.
  • Improve my mapping Mojo so that I can produce maps efficiently and with a level of acceptable quality.
  • Post NPC's with Stat blocks for 4E (that's kinda like the point of this site).
  • Possibly explore NPC's of other systems (Traveller, Pathfinder, Dogs in the Vineyards, Call of Cthulthu) when I need a change of pace.
Enjoy what ever hollidays you care to enjoy,

Snork

  1. For mapping, I recommend Dungeon Crafter v1 and Hexmapper; neither is supported any longer but they work really well if you have already existing maps as you can port bmp's right into them for modification.

Dungeon Crafter can be found at http://dungeoncrafter3.com/legacy/ - the DC1 customs link on the right is where you can find some custom tiles for it. Here's a link to something I made in about an hour today: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_LrXi7QH5Zt4/SVKkGcqksyI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/VyszxAcDCqc/s1600-h/sobra.bmp

Hexmapper is now nearly impossible to find but I do have a copy I'm willing to upload if you decide to try it. Here's a hexmap I made with it: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_LrXi7QH5Zt4/SUwBp5evSvI/AAAAAAAAAIU/bMjLRHc1x38/s1600-h/kynafir-summer.bmp

With both, you can cut and enlarge bmp files in paint then load and modify pretty easy. That's what I did with this and DC1:

    Good luck!

  2. Viriatha, Very good tip. In 10 min of playing I couldn't figure out how to load the tile sets such that the program could see them. (Manual?! I don't need no stinking manual). But I do like how, with object shadow on, I achieve a rather decent line dungeon with just the default wall/room tool.
I really enjoy the fact that If I draw a room, and then draw an overlapping room It automatically removes any walls in the overlapped region.

The maps that you directed me to were very nice and functional.

I dream of one day achieving this level of mapping http://www.dundjinni.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=10590&KW=lich

    Thanks again,
    Snork

Also, wow, that is an amazing map - I don't think I'm ever going to have that kind of ambition though lol
